We often undervalue the conveniences that are present around us; maybe we fail to recognise the hardships that went into creating those conveniences for us. One such luxury is the wine racks that we use to store our supply of wines.
Although, without wine, we would not have wine racks, so let’s have a look into the history of wine first.
The history unveils that primordial Egyptians were the first inventors of wine. Although, the wine making grape was not the main crop of that area, they continued producing wine by forming strong trade relations with other regions. Egyptians believed in importing materials what they could not grow on their own land and that is why the trade dealings went on for years and years. The produced wine used to be stored in clay pots and containers; those stored wines were consumed by living and as per their belief stored in the tombs of their dead relatives along with other food items.
After passage of hundreds of years, the winemaking trade took a great turn and progressed into the wine that we consume today enriching our taste buds. Wineries are now everywhere around the world and offer the convenience of unique tasting wines and grape fuelled other beverages.
Now comes the wine racks, it is widely believed that the wines were initially stored in caves across Europe, those caves were the first actual wine racks that we know of. It is surprising to know that the preferences for storing wine at the right temperature and in the right atmosphere have not changed since then. Many wine-ologists found that wines were stored best in glass bottles that have long necks and to make the storage of those bottles easy, wine racks were created.
Wine racks were crafted and designed to adjust each bottle type produced by wine makers. The range of wine racks we have to choose from today has made its way after all the hard work and turmoil. So next time you store your wine bottle in your beautiful and sturdy wine rack, do remember you are following the ancient tradition.
